Mayor Doug McCallum and other members of Surrey Council joined residents of the Morningside area of Fleetwood last night, June 16, 2004, to mark the official opening of Morningside Park.
"As the 'City of Parks', Surrey is always finding new and unique opportunities to add to our parks and green space inventory," said Mayor Doug McCallum on behalf of Council. "Morningside Park is a great example of residents supporting the implementation of natural protection principles at the neighbourhood park level."
Morningside Park was planned with significant input from residents of the immediate neighbourhood. The park includes amenities such as a perimeter walking-jogging trail, open lawn, a section of preserved old-field habitat, native plant garden areas and a small playground for children.
Councillor Barbara Steele, Chair, Parks and Community Services Committee added, "Morningside offers a unique balance of reserved natural area for wildlife habitat while at the same time offering opportunities for active and passive recreation opportunities by integrating a grassy open area and playground."
Morningside Park is located at 8229 - 150th Street in the south Fleetwood area of Surrey.
