Councillor Mary Martin, husband Tony and their 3 children have been Surrey residents for 17 years.
Councillor Martin's involvement in the community began as Co-Chair of the first PAC at Brookside Elementary in Newton, as Chair of the Parish Education Board at Cloverdale Catholic School and as Treasurer of Kids Help Phone.
Since her election to Council in 2005, she has been a strong supporter of Surrey's new Sobering Centre which will provide an entrance point to rehabilitation and 30 new beds for people with addictions.
As someone who believes in balancing new investment and job creation with the preservation of green space, Councillor Martin is proud that in recent years Surrey has acquired 694 acres of parkland, including Kwomais Point Park, and won the Green Streets Award in 2007 for planting the most boulevard trees in Canada.
Councillor Martin is a member of the Surrey First Coalition.
