Grant is focused on encouraging healthy lifestyle choices and has brought this enthusiasm to many of his volunteer activities. He was a SportMed BC Sun Run clinic Leader then Coordinator in Newton for four years.

Grant is actively involved in the Surrey Urban Farmer's Market, is a member of the Surrey Environmental Partners and represents the South Westminster Ratepayers Association on the Surrey Association of Sustainable Communities. He has been on the City of Surrey Parks and Community Services Committee since February 2007 and is a strong advocate for increased partnerships between the City and the School District.

Grant's vision for Surrey includes increased public input into the consultation process with full public hearings for Neighbourhood Concept Plans, a sustainability scorecard for development application permits and increased protection of agricultural land and other green spaces.
