Councillor Barinder Rasode grew up in Kamloops BC and has been a resident of Surrey for the past 23 years. She studied at SFU and has worked as a Labour Relations Specialist for many years. She is also an Alternate for the Metro Vancouver Board of Directors and is the City's Liaison on the Surrey Board of Trade. Councillor Rasode is focused on the issue of domestic violence in our community. She recently initiated two Domestic Violence Collaboration Forums, where professionals representing 12 stakeholder groups, worked together to improve communication, maintain dialogue and education as the first steps to help combat the issue and raise the profile of domestic violence in our community. More forums are planned as she takes this issue forward and into our homes promoting the well-being of our families. For the last 10 years, Councillor Rasode has organized the hugely successful Annual Rasode Soccer Tournament to raise awareness about the negative impact of gangs and drugs. She and her husband, Major, Deputy Sheriff for the Surrey Provincial Court, live in Newton where they are raising three children. Councillor Rasode was elected to office in the November 2008 Civic Election. Councillor Rasode is a member of the Surrey First Coalition.
