Got a flare for the dramatic? Discover a week's worth of fun as we travel to Scotland and the theatrical world of Macbeth: The Musical Comedy! This spoof of one of Shakespeare's most famous works creates a world filled with music, intrigue and fun. There are parts for everyone from beginner to advanced. On Friday your friends and family can attend the final performance at 2pm in the Studio Theatre, where theatre technicians and ushers help make the journey complete.

Art Adventures Camp
  ages 8 - 12

Join in a fabulous adventure, blazing a trail through the wonderful world of arts and crafts. Learn new skills from an experienced art educator. Create amazing artifacts from scratch, including marvellous masks, exciting jewellery and practical pottery.

9am-3pm                    Daily $33.25 | Mon-Fri $142.25


Create with the Masters Camp       
ages 8 - 12

Let's start at the beginning....travel back through time and discover the work of artists from the past. Learn how the creation of art has changed over the years and how it still has an influence on the art we see today. Learn from an experienced art educator how to create works influenced by Impressionism, Surrealism and other major art movements throughout history.

The Art of Theatre Camp

The Royal Canadian Theatre Co.  
ages 8-13

Amazing things can happen when you mix visual arts and theatre! This camp is the ultimate expedition for arts explorers. In an exciting week of creation and fun, explorers work with theatre and arts professionals, Michael Charrois and Yulia Shtern, in a range of dramatic and visual arts activities. Travelling toward a performance of The Arabian Nights in the Studio Theatre on Friday at 2pm, discover ways to use your voice and body to bring a character to life. Investigate works of famous artists that will inspire the creation of original costumes and props for the final performance. Theatre technicians and ushers add a professional touch-you'll be proud to invite your family and friends!

Acrylic Painting Camp
ages 13-17

Artists throughout history have painted images of the people, places and things they have been when they travelled from their studios to far off lands, or even to the park in their neighbourhood. Discover how you can do the same with acrylic paint by learning basic composition and techniques such as mixing colour and using brushes in creative ways.

At Nightfall is a subtle, gorgeous piece of choreography about Auguste, a shoemaker who discovers a magical water forest. Beautiful imagery and engaging characters create a magical world on stage. This visually breathtaking dance performance enchants audiences of all ages.

INSTRUCTOR BIO's

Michael Charrois is a Vancouver-based professional actor (Equity, Actra/UBCP), street performer, writer and director; a jack-of-all-trades willing to do anything to avoid the 9 to 5 grind. He has been a professional, working actor since 1986. In the summer he likes to tour around performing one-man street shows at Festivals, and in the winter he tries to stay warm (if not dry) living in the Vancouver rain forest.

Michael is also an accomplished writer, recent productions include The
Illumination of Marshall McLuhan
, and The Happy Anarchist. Origins was
pleased to assist in producing The Happy Anarchist, produced by The Happy Anarchist Equity Co-op. It was a site specific work at the New Amsterdam Cafe in the spring of 2003.

Michael is the instructor for Theatre Camp, and co-instructs the theatre portion of The Art of Theatre Camp.  

Yulia Shtern completed her BFA in Drawing and Painting at the Ontario College of Art and Design and is currently finishing a Masters degree in Scenic Design at UBC. She is a practicing visual artist (acrylics and mixed media), and a scenic and costume designer. Her artwork has been exhibited in numerous exhibitions, both group and solo. Recent design credits include Ten Nights of Dream (Tomoe Arts), Blood Relations and The Early Girl (Douglas College), Halo and Tartuffe (Trinity Western University), Dybbuk (Theatre at UBC), Lady Windermere's Fan (United Players of Vancouver), and Moonlight and Valentino, Homeward Bound and Problem Child/Criminal Genius (Alumnae Theatre, Toronto). Currently Yulia is designing costumes for A Year With Frog and Toad with Carousel Theatre. Yulia has taught various visual arts and crafts programs over the course of the last decade and is looking forward to teaching with the Surrey Arts Centre.

Yulia co-instructs the Visual Arts portion of The Art of Theatre Camp.
