| | The City of Surrey has developed a Sustainability Charter, an overarching policy document that will guide the City’s approach to social, cultural, environmental, and economic sustainability in the future. The definition of "sustainability" in Surrey's context is "the principle of meeting the needs of the present generation in terms of the environment, the economy and socio-cultural systems while promoting a high quality of life, but without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." In September 2008, Council unanimously approved the Sustainability Charter as the City’s overarching policy document. The Fraser Basin Council recognized this document by granting the City their prestigious 2009 "Award for Overall Sustainability". |
