Important Tools & Tips During Flood
Prepare Yourself: Preparation for a flood will be your greatest defense. We want to ensure safety and well being, so please follow instructions carefully on this website.

Listen For Instructions: We will ensure to keep you informed and updated of all flood precaution warnings as they occur. Instructions will be provided via television, radio, newspaper and Surrey's website as well as door-to-door visits by flood operations personnel if necessary.

Leave The Area Immediately When You Are Instructed To Do So: Make arrangements to stay with friends or family away from the affected areas. If this is not possible, please refer to the "Emergency Social Services Flood Plan " section of this website. For businesses provide your employees with an evacuation plan and make sure that employees are kept informed of the situation at all times.

Don't Try To Be A Hero: Leave when you're asked to leave. Our emergency response teams are well enough equipped to deal with a flood situation. Ignoring an evacuation warning could jeopardize the safety of your family or employees or those people who might eventually have to come to your rescue.
What Services Are Available After The Flood?
Provincial Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) may be available for individuals, families and small business when insurance is not available.
This is available through an application process through the Provincial Emergency Plan. For more information, please refer to their website at www.pep.bc.ca and review PEP’s Financial Assistance for Emergency Response and Recovery Costs.
Assistance through the Red Cross may be available through their Financial Assistance Program through their appeal to raise donations. This is dependent on the good will of the participants.
A Recovery Agency list will be available that will contain a list of various community agencies and support services that you can contact which help families in need.
Important Notice Regarding Insurance
Flood damage is often a peril not covered by your homeowner’s insurance policy. In addition, insurance can't replace your photos and other memory keepsakes. You may wish to consult your insurance broker regarding your coverage and take proactive steps in relocating precious items out of a flood area for safeguarding.
