 School classes will be excited and inspired as they experience farm life at the turn of the 20th century with a visit to this 1894 farmhouse and grounds.  


To book a school program:
 

  • Phone or book in person at the Surrey Museum (604-592-6956), Tuesday-Friday, 9:30am-5:00pm or Saturdays, 10am-5pm.

Payment and Confirmation
To confirm, payment is due at time of booking. Payment by phone is by Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Payment in person is by cash, cheque, Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Debit Card.

Once you have booked your program, you will receive a confirmation by mail, as well as a set of program notes to prepare your class for their visit.

PROGRAMS

  • Kindi Picnic    (Kindergarten)
    Bring a picnic and celebrate the end of the school year with a tour of this special heritage site. Children will try traditional chores, play old-time games, and enjoy a cool summer treat as they hand-churn ice cream.

  • Farm Kids    (Gr 1–3)
    Children are invited to dress up in pioneer costumes to explore 1890s rural life from a child’s point of view. Using role play and Teaching Collection objects, students experience farm chores, early pastimes and school lessons in a farmhouse setting.

  • Woodlands & Waterways    (Gr 4–6)
    Tidal charts, sea shells and magnifying glasses are some of the tools students will use in the field to explore the woodlands of Elgin Heritage Park and the waterways of the Nicomekl River. Students identify environmental habitats and birds of prey along the shoreline.

  • NEW! Life on the Farm    (Gr 5–6)
    Explore the daily life and work of Scottish and Chinese settlers on a farm at the beginning of the 20th century. Through role play and Teaching Collection objects, students experience the cultural traditions of immigrants, and discover how economy and technology influenced farm life in early Canadian society.

  • Guided Discovery Tour    (Gr 1–5)
    Explore how early settlers live on farms in Surrey from 1890 to 1910. Tour the Victorian farmhouse and pole barn while costumed guides lead students in an informative discussion with Discovery Sheets.
