Explore Surrey's past with us in our bright and modern facility. Various curriculum-based programs are offered throughout the year. Students will see, hear and touch the story of Surrey and find out why it is a special place to live, work and play.


2010-2011 PROGRAMS

  • NEW! Pioneer School Picnic   (Kindergarten)
    Introduce students to historic pioneer life! Visit the Anderson Cabin, taste homemade ice cream and experience old-time games as students re-enact a traditional annual school picnic.

  • Surrey Long Ago   (Gr 1–3)
    Discover Surrey’s pioneer life in the late 19th and early 20th centuries through experiencing the cabin, classroom lessons and gallery artifacts.

    Offered:  Wednesdays, Oct 6–Nov 17, 2010; Feb 9–May 18, 2011

  • People of the Land   (Gr 4–5)
    Explore the culture of the First Nations of Northwest B.C. by making a cedar weaving, touching artifacts and learning potlatch traditions.

  • Christmas Long Ago   (Gr 1–3)
    Explore Christmas traditions and create old-fashioned decorations to take home.

  • Wartime Christmas   (Gr 4–7)
    Discover how families and communities in Surrey participated in civic defense while upholding Christmas traditions during the lean war years.

Choose a single session or make a day of it, with two venues on one site. Ample free parking available!

  • Buried Treasure (at Surrey Museum)
    Students will be introduced to the dynamic world of archaeology and the study of past civilizations. Inquiry discussion of present day archaeology models and a ‘hands on’ simulated ‘dig’ will be explored.

  • Ancient Civilizations (at Surrey Museum)
    Investigate ancient civilizations and compare influences of Egypt, Greece and the Northwest Coast of Canada.

  • Raiders of the Lost Archives (at Surrey Archives)
    Using an array of historical records students will learn about Surrey’s history, the differences between primary and secondary sources, and how to decipher information from many different sources.

  • Guided Discovery Tours   (Gr 1–7)

    Discover Surrey’s long established history as a place where people have settled to create better lives for themselves and their families.

  • EDUKIT
    Family Treasures
       (Gr 5–6)
    Bring a heritage experience into your classroom! Discover the family histories of the Carncross and Nishioka families who immigrated to Surrey in the 1800s. Students will develop critical thinking skills while exploring replica artifacts and primary and secondary source archival documents.

    Available Oct–Dec 2010; Feb–May 2011

  10:15am–11:45am or 12:30pm–2:00pm
Fee:  $57 per class
Ample free parking is available on site.
School Program registration begins September 1

Payment and Confirmation
To confirm, payment is due at time of booking. You can pay by phone with Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Payment in person is by cash, cheque, Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Debit Card.

Once you have booked your program, you will receive a confirmation by mail, as well as a set of program notes to prepare your class for their visit.
