Park Clean-up - Safety Tips

  • Do NOT pick up hazardous material such as used syringes, condoms, dead animals, dog waste or large/heavy objects
  • Always use a tool (such as a rake or stick) to identify an item before picking it up
  • Protect yourself by wearing gloves and boots
  • Designate an adult to pick up sharp objects. Use a broom, dustpan and a bucket; not a bag
  • Work in pairs: the buddy system is more fun and safer than cleaning up alone
  • Always have a first aid kit on hand
  • Carry a cellular phone and/or know where accessible phones are enroute
  • Do not remove branches/woody material from the forest; spread them so they decompose as part of the forest ecosystem
