Launched in the fall of 2006, the Surrey Youth Stewardship Squad (SYSS) is for youth in Surrey to come together and do activities outdoors.  This means you!  Some activities will benefit the natural environment and others will give you a chance to experience a variety of activities outside taking advantage of our super-natural surroundings.

What We Do

There are many projects and activities that help the environment.   Some take more elbow grease than others, but all contribute to the health and well being of our local community.  SYSS is involved in removing invasive plant species (aka “weeds”), planting native plant species, decommissioning unsanctioned trails and other projects as they present themselves.

We also have opportunities to appreciate our environment through fun outdoor activities.  Things like hiking, biking, rock climbing, winter sports and going to sporting events are all possible for activities the Stewardship Squad to do.  Is there something missing from this list that you're into trying?  Then keep reading...

By YOUth for YOUth!

When we say “By youth, for youth” we mean it!  We can only do the activities you want if you tell us what they are.  You’ve got the chance to speak your mind and be heard.  So come out to an event, give us a try and let us know what you think!  Chances are, someone else will be thinking the same thing...

Benefits of the Surrey Youth Stewardship Squad

We want to make sure these experiences give you something that looks fabulous on your resume!  Practical outdoor skills in parks and natural areas.  Skills that will help you figure out what you want to do for work and then those same skills will help get you started on that career path.

The Surrey Youth Stewardship Squad is also a great way to earn credit for Portfolio requirements for youth who are attending high school and are required to perform volunteer or work experience activities.

Want to get started?  Then check out our upcoming events and we'll see you there!
