The City of Surrey Parks, Recreation and Culture staff plant and maintain trees on the City's boulevards and streets. At latest count approximately 40,000 street trees have been planted since the program began in 1978.
Trees in our urban city provide shade during hot weather, shelter from strong winds and habitat for attractive urban wildlife. They also contribute to the value of real estate.
Bylaw No. 5835 prohibits cutting of trees on municipally owned properties and streets.
City staff schedule pruning of City-planted street trees on a three-to-five year cycle, and will also inspect and prune native trees or trees planted by residents within streets ON A HAZARD BASIS ONLY. Hazards may include dead trees or dead or hanging branches.
If you would like street trees planted, you may request a petition to circulate on your street.
For street or parks tree inquiries, please call the Parks, Recreation and Culture Help Line at (604) 501-5050.
