Recreation Partnership Proposal Submission Criteria

The City of Surrey has an exciting opportunity for partnerships with the community.  Funding is available to partner with the City for capital projects leading to renovations and/or additions to existing City recreational facilities to enhance our hosting abilities and to benefit our community in the delivery of recreational services.

Alternately, the funding could be made available as the City’s matching fund contribution that may be required for senior government grants for important recreation infrastructure projects.

It should be noted that this fund is not intended to be used to playground partnerships with community groups, and is only to be used for capital projects and not to directly provide for, or to off-set, operating funding requirements.

What kind of organizations are eligible?

Should have a proven and demonstrated record of providing support to its members and Surrey residents.

  • Preferably a registered non-profit organization in good financial standing for at least one year prior to submitting the proposal.
  • Should have a good quality business plan outlining the project capital requirements.
  • Should be able to demonstrate financial capability and resources to finance the capital improvements and financial ability to contribute to operating requirements.
  • Should have community support as demonstrated by an effective program of previous and/or current fundraising.

What kind of projects are eligible?

  • Projects should have a total capital cost in excess of $500,000 and a maximum of 4 projects will be considered by the City in 2007.   The City’s partnership contribution will be a minimum of $250,000 per project.
  • Projects that will make a facility better suited to hosting recreational activities that presently have no purpose-built facility to support them.
  • Projects that demonstrate and justify a community need and demand for the program, service or facility.
  • Projects that are compatible with the City of Surrey’s strategic plans and priorities.
  • Projects that improve the balance and co-ordination of services in a community and avoid overlap or duplication.
