Volunteer Success Stories

s

I volunteer with Surrey Parks, Recreation & Culture because it lets me experience lots of hands-on work at the office. Volunteering at the office has definitely boosted up my confidence level. I've met many friendly people, and its a great way to expand your social network. From learning how to make phone calls to perfecting my socializing skills, this experience benefited me in more ways than one. Being as young as I am, it's a great feeling to know that I can, indeed, make a difference.

I was inspired to be a volunteer in order to give something back to my community.  Volunteering has allowed me to feel that I can take ownership to what happens in my community.  We are truly blessed to live in such a great area.  By working jointly with the other partners in our community (City of Surrey, RCMP, School District) we are able to tackle issues that affect not only the lives of my family but the lives of our neighbours as well.

The reason I volunteer is to share my skills , talents and knowledge with younger children. It is wonderful to work with them and see their interest in what I have to share with them and one day they may do the same.  I volunteer At the Steward farm house doing the Woodlands and waterways program, the Girl guide program and the Christmas  program.  I volunteer at the Surrey museum  doing the Tuesday program called People of the Lands I find this to be very satisfying.

I enjoy volunteering for Surrey because it gives me a chance to share my enjoyment of the outdoors and birding with others. The only thing better than spotting a pair of Green Herons at Surrey Lake is being able to share that excitement with a group of new birders! The walks help to increase the number of people who have a knowledgeable and caring interest in our environment.
