His Royal Highness the Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex visited Surrey to attend an RCMP Regimental Ball held in his honour at the Sheraton Guildford on Thursday night. As the Deputy Honourary Commissioner of the RCMP, Prince Edward’s visit to Surrey was particularly meaningful as Surrey is home to the largest RCMP detachment in Canada.
Mayor Watts and members of Surrey City Council were on hand for the Regimental Gala and presented the Prince with a photo montage of past Royal Visits with files from the Surrey Archives in honour of his visit. The Prince also received an original piece of hand carved art created by local First Nation artist George Van Meer (P’alikst) who is also a City of Surrey employee.
“This was a very memorable occasion for the Surrey RCMP and for our City as a whole,” said Mayor Dianne Watts. “I was pleased to welcome Prince Edward to Surrey, BC and join with him in celebrating the contributions that RCMP officers make to our communities.”
Prince Edward’s trip to British Columbia has taken him to Vancouver, Victoria and Surrey and he is expected to be returning back to his home in Surrey, England soon after.
