City of Surrey Again Named One of B.C.'s Top Employers

February 02, 2011

Surrey – For the seventh year in a row, the City of Surrey has been named one of B.C.’s top employers. The annual competition is organized by the editors of Canada's Top 100 Employers and recognizes organizations that lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work.

“This recognition is a reflection of the outstanding employees we have at the City of Surrey. They have created an innovative, progressive and friendly work environment that encourages individual success and allows us to attract and retain high quality employees,” says Mayor Dianne Watts. “As one of Canada’s fastest growing municipalities, our employees work very hard to serve the residents and businesses we represent and I want to thank them for helping to create such an engaging work environment.”

MediaCorp Canada annually reviews the recruitment histories of over 75,000 employers throughout Canada. Employers are evaluated on eight different criteria: Physical Workplace; Work Atmosphere & Social; Health; Financial & Family Benefits; Vacation & Time Off; Employee Communications; Performance Management; Training & Skills Development; and Community Involvement. Employers are compared to other organizations in their field to determine which offers the most progressive and forward-thinking programs.

The City of Surrey has more than 3,400 employees who are encouraged to follow the City’s five core corporate values of community, innovation, integrity, service and teamwork. These values serve to guide how employees work and are fundamental to the relationships they with each other and with those they serve.
