River Road / Grace Road Connector Project

Project Description

The City’s Engineering Department is planning construction of the River Road / Grace Road connector at 117 Avenue. River Road will be connected to  Grace Road acting as the primary collector road into the Royal Heights neighborhood, thereby removing the detour on 117 Street (local road cul-de-sac).The project will include approximately 560m of new collector road, 580m of local road improvements, and related utility work. New sidewalks, curb & gutter, and street lighting are proposed as a part of local and collector road construction.

Project Location

Public Consultation

A Public Information Meeting was held on October 19, 2017 at Royal Heights Elementary School. City staff presented the proposed roadwork to realign River Road to connect directly to Grace Road, bypassing the residential neighbourhood and addressing operational concerns at 117 Street. Additionally, staff shared planned enhancements, including the addition of multi-use pathways as well as new sidewalks, curbs, gutters and streetlighting to improve existing local and collector roads in the affected neighbourhood.

At the meeting, staff received positive feedback on the roadway improvements which will address traffic volumes within the residential neighbourhood and support for the associated works to improve neighbourhood walkability and bike routes. If you missed the meeting and would like to learn more, please see the letter sent to neighbouring residents on September 18, 2017 or review the Public Information Meeting presentation boards.

Project Timing
