Berkshire Park Elementary School Travel Planning 2010/2011
Berkshire Park Elementary students walk and bike to school. To increase the number of students walking and biking, Berkshire Park participated in School Travel Planning in the 2010/2011 school year, facilitated by HASTe.
Berkshire Park Elementary is located at 15372 94 Avenue in Fleetwood.
School Travel Planning successes
- Walked to school with the Mayor on Earth Day in 2012
- Carpooling increased from 5% to 12%
Engineering improvements
In 2013, we built curb bulges, a sidewalk, and speed humps on 94 Avenue in front of Berkshire Park Elementary to:
- Improve student pedestrian safety,
- Raised awareness of the school zone, and
- Reduced vehicle speeds.
In 2012, we improved pedestrian and cyclist safety and encouraged walking and cycling at Berkshire Park Elementary, as well as at North Surrey Secondary, by building:
- A sidewalk and bike lanes on 156 Street from 92 Avenue to 96 Avenue
- A median refuge and crossing on 156 Street for the Green Timbers Greenway
In 2011, we improved pedestrian safety for Berkshire Park Elementary and Johnston Heights Secondary students by installing a crosswalk with activated flashing lights and a median refuge, in coordination with the widening of 96 Avenue.
