About Semiahmoo Trail Mosaics
Semiahmoo Trail Mosaics were designed to reference the historic Semiahmoo Trail which passes nearby. The art work includes 13 distinct, pebble mosaic tablets illustrating a range of fauna and edible medicinal flora. Footprints, figurative illustrations of animals, and details of vines, shrubs, trees, and insects are portrayed on the “walkway.”
The mosaic tablets, inset between sections of exposed aggregate, form a decorative border to the 16th Avenue Semiahmoo Shopping Centre sidewalk. The original Semiahmoo Trail traversed Surrey from the Pattullo Bridge to the US border and remains a favourite nature trail through a good portion of the City.

About the Artist
Glen Andersen is a Vancouver-based sculptor and mosaic artist. After studying film at Simon Fraser University, he shifted directions and committed himself to making what he describes as “accessible, human-scale, handmade pedestrian-friendly” public art.
He is best known for his mosaics, which he has created on his own and in collaboration with community groups. Andersen’s art can be found in parks, plazas, school grounds, residential neighbourhoods and private gardens throughout the northwest.
His other artworks in Surrey include The Train Arriving at the Station, also at Semiahmoo Shopping Centre, and Pebble Mosaics and Were It Not For You, both in Holland Park.
