Free Things to Do in March

This month is full of so many fun things to do in Surrey. Kick off March with a SHaRP event, join Family Nights in Cloverdale happening each Friday, and seniors and youth can come together to Celebrate the Arts at end of the month. Take your pick and explore these free activities and more happening around town—don’t miss out!

Check out the LIVE 5210 Playboxes
Various Parks  | Everyday in March | Dawn to Dusk 
When it's a warm winter day, access sports equipment and games with Live 5-2-1-0 Playboxes. Simply unlock the box, enjoy the gear, return it when you're finished and have fun! Everyone is able to sign up for free access to the Playbox, which is accessible from dawn to dusk, or when the park is open. Please return the equipment to the Playbox after each use to allow it to be available for other users.

L.A Matheson Volunteer Fair | March 1 at 12:50pm to 2:40pm
Join the Salmon Habitat Restoration Program (SHaRP) for some fishy fun times at various events throughout the summer and fall each year.

Thursday Artist Talk: Erica Grimm, Tracie Stewart, Sheinagh Anderson, "Skin Boats and Ocean Soundings"​
Surrey Art Galley | March 1 at 7:30pm to 9:00pm 
Our changing ocean and climate is the most urgent problem facing humanity today. Join visual artists Erica Grimm and Tracie Stewart, along with sound artist Sheinagh Anderson, in an illustrated artist’s talk and guided sound circle that weaves analogies between human bodies and the ocean.

Community Art Planning Sessions
Locations TBD | March 1 and March 15
Do you want to brighten up your neighborhood with creativity? Come join the Community Art Planning Team. This is a group of youth and young adults (ages 15 to 30) that meets regularly and creates different art projects together. Call 604-591-4194 for more info.

Kensington Prairie Recreation Centre | March 8 from 4:30pm to 6:30pm
Join us for an informative community conversation and learn how your child can be prepared for kindergarten. Bring your little ones! Free child minding will be available too, however children must be registered.

Family Movie Night
Fleetwood Community Centre | March 9 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm
Watch a movie with your family, dress in your pyjamas and bring your blanket! Concession will be available for popcorn and other treats. This event is free but registration is required to secure your spot.

Birding Walk
Surrey Nature Centre | March 17 from 9am to 11am
Start by observing the bird feeders at the Surrey Nature Centre, and then walk along forested trails to Green Timbers Lake where osprey and cormorants fish for rainbow trout. Meet in the Surrey Nature Centre’s parking lot.

Family Sunday
Surrey Art Gallery | March 18 from 11am to 3pm
Create art with paint, pastels, clay, and chalk inspired by the vibrant paintings in the exhibit Many Visions, Many Versions: Art from Indigenous Communities in India. Interactive musical performances await you at 1pm or 2:30pm. Everyone is welcome at this free event—children must be with an adult.

Lifeguard Information Session
North Surrey Recreation Centre | March 19 from 6pm to 7pm
Learn how you can get started on a path towards being a lifeguard or aquatic instructor! Find out about the training process and volunteer opportunities. Attendance to the sessions are free but all participants must be ages 10 and older and register online, in person or by phone to secure their spot.
