    Know before you go

    Hockey vs. Figure Skates

Hockey skates have a blade that is roughly the same length as the boot and rockered (curved) on both ends. The boot is slightly lower cut on the ankle and more rigid than a figure skate. These skates are generally wider than figure skates. Hockey skates fit one size smaller than boys shoe sizes and two sizes smaller than girls shoe sizes.

    Hockey skates

Figure skates have a flat blade that is longer than the boot, and a toe pick on the front (used for spins and jumps). The boot tends to be a little softer and comes higher up on the ankle than a hockey skate. These skates generally fit true to shoe size and are narrower than hockey skates.

    Safety Requirements
    1. Children ages 0 to 12 are required to wear a helmet on the ice during public programs.
    2. Lessons and ice sport programs require CSA approved helmets to be worn by participants of all ages.
    3. Skating bars and aids are available during our drop-in skates. Please use them respectfully.
    4. For the safety of the child and the adult, children cannot be carried or in a carrier on the ice. Ride on skating aids are available for use during public skates and strollers are allowed on the ice, provided the wheels are clean of dirt and debris and the child is wearing a helmet.
    Extra Tips

The arena and viewing areas are cold places! Come prepared and dress warmly: pants, sweater, jacket, long socks, gloves and close-toed shoes are recommended.
