Julie Andreyev: Greenroom

Julie Andreyev: Greenroom cover

With her project, Greenroom, Julie Andreyev transformed the TechLab into an interactive, real, and virtual park environment.

Visitors observe played, relaxed, and created within the Greenroom's "virtual" park environment, and experienced their own "telepresence." The project utilized sensor technology, faux grass and water, video surveillance systems, data projectors, computers and the Internet. Greenroom used park imagery from the "natural" surroundings of the Surrey Art Gallery and Bear Creek Park, and integrated data streamed from another park in a remote location (Granville Island in Vancouver).

This video was visitor-activated to merge in real time with the imagery of themselves and the Lab's "park." Presented at the Surrey Art Gallery April 17 to July 25, 2004, and at the Emily Carr Institute Media Gallery June 13 to July 25, 2004.

This catalogue features an introduction by Liane Davison, an essay by Petra Watson, an artist's biography, and seven, full colour images. It was produced to document this exhibition and was published in partnership with the Emily Carr Institute Centre for Art and Technology, Vancouver.
