Surrey’s Energy and Emissions Plan works within the ‘Community Action’ area of Surrey’s ENERGYShift and will engage community members, stakeholders, City Council and staff to create plan to reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions in key sectors across the community.
The goal of our Energy and Emissions Plan is to establish Surrey as a model community in the areas of energy supply, reliability, sustainability and climate responsibility. The Plan will encourage local job creation and community re-investment; promote vibrant, healthy neighbourhoods; and help residents and businesses proactively address anticipated energy cost increases.
Strategies of Surrey's Energy and Emissions Plan
Surrey’s Energy and Emissions Plan will include diverse strategies:
- Land Use: Encourage safe, walkable, complete, compact neighbourhoods
- Transportation: Support walking, cycling, transit, green cars
- Buildings: Build efficient new buildings and promote energy retrofits in existing ones
- Energy Infrastructure: Establish sustainable energy supply systems
- Solid Waste: Reduce, re-use, recycle, and recover energy from waste
Developing the Plan will involve the completion of an energy and emissions baseline and 25 year projections to help us better understand future energy demand and supply for key sectors. This information will help us define targets, actions and a monitoring strategy to make sure we meet our commitments.
