Our Garbage is Dropping

Since October 2012, our new Rethink Waste Collection Program has been helping us reach the 70% regional waste diversion target by 2015. Early results of the program have been very promising. In the first three months of collection, Surrey’s residential garbage tonnage dropped by 43%, with a corresponding increase in organic waste diversion.

Your commitment towards waste diversion is making a huge impact on our environment. Your participation has been so great that we’re now well ahead of initial targets and on pace to reducing garbage by 50% sooner than expected! The Trucks

Cleaner Air for a Greener World

We are now collecting residential waste using automated Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks, which emit 23% less carbon and 90% less air particulates, compared to a regular diesel truck. Replacing one diesel truck with a CNG truck is equivalent to taking 475 cars off the road each year.

The Power of 3: Green, Blue, & Black

Three new waste carts now collect organics, recyclables, and any remaining garbage that can’t be recycled or composted. Your default cart sizes have been selected based on your household size. If the cart sizes you received are not to your satisfaction, you can request a cart exchange. Service fees will apply for exchanges.
