Every year through the City’s Capital Construction Program, Surrey's Engineering Department delivers hundreds of capital projects.

2019 Capital Construction Projects

Some of the 2019 projects and their benefits to residents and businesses in Surrey include:

  • construction of arterial roadway widening such as 192 Street from 32 Avenue to 40 Avenue, and 160 St from 26 Ave to 32 Ave;
  • timely repavement of arterial, collector, and local roads, including King George Blvd, 116A Ave, and 121 St, to help minimize long-term maintenance costs;
  • construction of intersection improvements, pedestrian crossings, and sidewalks to enhance traffic safety;
  • construction of the Colebrook Dyke upgrades to provide flood protection improvements to Surrey’s lowlands;
  • construction of over 8.1 kilometres of water main to meet the water supply demands of the growing population in Surrey; and
  • construction of the Robson Sewer Replacement Program (Phase 1), and the installation of over 6.7 kilometres of sanitary sewer.

Transportation Projects

Transportation projects build and maintain a safe, sustainable, integrated transportation network. Work includes completing streets designed for those who walk, bike, take transit and drive.

Energy Projects

Energy projects that use low-carbon, renewable resources to provide heat and hot water to residents are underway. The West Village District Energy Centre is Surrey’s first permanent district energy plant.

Drainage Projects

Drainage projects include strengthening dyke and flood control in Surrey’s lowlands. They also include rehabilitating natural drainage features and building sustainable drainage features like detention ponds and perforated pipes for stormwater management.

Sewer Projects

Sewer upgrades increase Surrey's capacity to move liquid waste for treatment through one of the largest sanitary sewer networks in the province.
