Young girl smiling and playing guitar

Musician development and mentorship for local youth singers, songwriters, solo artists, bands and DJs.

Band-Aid is presented in partnership with Surrey Civic Theatres, Surrey Youth, and Healthy Communities. We've joined forces with Online Youth Nights to offer youth free online mentorship sessions with music professionals from around Metro Vancouver. These workshops provide opportunities for young people to develop their skills and connect with other local musicians.

2021 Workshops

Music Creation & Songwriting with Josh Bogert

Thursday, October 14 at 7-8:30pm

Ages 10-22 | MS Teams | Free

Work through the process of creating a song from start to finish, from the initial idea to the final release. Learn about song structure, how to create compelling lyrics and melody, and how to brainstorm ideas. We'll also cover how to create a demo for your song, recording audio, programming virtual instruments, and look at ways to release your music digitally, making your song available to the world.

Josh Bogert grew up singing, playing instruments, and enjoying music in every situation possible. Starting classical violin lessons at age 4, then moving on to piano and finally guitar, he loved learning how to play songs from his favorite movies and taught himself how to play them by ear in his spare time. His music has over 4 million streams on Spotify and over 1.6 million views on YouTube.

There's also a chance to win prizes, including Guildford Town Centre gift cards.

About Band-Aid

The Philosophy

Band-Aid emerged out of the community. Youth musicians want to use their powers for good–to create a positive culture for young bands in Surrey. They want to collaborate, work together and learn together.

Band-Aid is building a network where everyone is welcome to contribute to a positive and constructive music community by acquiring skills and relationships that benefit their development as musicians.

The Ripple Effect

Band-Aid breaks down barriers and connects people. The musicians have continued to work together–planning events, building relationships and cheering each other on. The skills and direction gained at Band-Aid have resulted in more performance opportunities. Bands have since performed at the Youth Talent Showcase, Culture Days, the SASSY Awards, Surrey International Children’s Festival and more.
