Created by Francisca Darts with the dedicated support of her husband Edwin, Darts Hill Garden Park is a showcase of 70 years of devotion, hard work and a pure love of horticulture.
Out of a logged parcel of land, Francisca and Edwin Darts cleared and transformed their property initially into an award-winning orchard. As Francisca became more involved with local gardening clubs, so did her enthusiasm for rare and unusual plants from around the world.
Gradually, they transformed their garden again, creating a collection garden – a plantsman’s garden. Wishing to see their garden continue to grow, inspire and teach new generations of gardeners, the Darts gifted their 7.5 acre garden to The City of Surrey in 1994.
The gates to Darts Hill Garden Park will be open to welcome the public again this spring. Explore the garden during our Public Garden Strolls, scheduled from 11 am – 3 pm on most Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from April 3, 2021, to July 31, 2021.
Check back soon for details on how to plan your visit!
In the meantime, enjoy a sneak peek into the garden’s history and all it has to offer with this Darts Hill Garden Park tour.
Darts Hill Garden Conservancy Trust Society and the City of Surrey are following the guidelines of the COVID 19 Public Health Orders so all activities, programs and events are subject to change. Before travelling to the garden, please check the Darts Hill Garden Park calendar to confirm opening.
Darts Hill Garden Park Endowment
The Darts Hill Garden Park Endowment provides necessary funds to build upon Francisca Darts’ vision of a Plantsman’s Garden. The Endowment contributes to capital projects that ensure the garden continues to be a unique and vital asset within the City of Surrey. Your generous contribution helps ensure the fund continues to grow and provides benefit to visitors to Darts Hill Garden Park through additional amenities and improvements.
In 1994 Edwin and Francisca Darts donated their 7.5-acre garden to the City of Surrey and its citizens. Their intention was to give Surrey its own garden to be used as a horticultural centre for the preservation, enhancement, and development of plants. Due to the sensitive nature of the botanical and unusual plant life at Darts Hill, it was Mr. and Mrs. Darts’ wish that events (including corporate events), event photography and weddings not take place in the garden. We highly recommend visiting Bear Creek Park, which is complete with a wedding chapel and beautifully manicured gardens on a first-come, first-served basis.
