Explore skating lessons and hockey programs in Surrey. The City of Surrey's arenas provide people of all ages and abilities with a range of skating lessons and hockey programs. 

Our approach to reopening is gradual to ensure the safety of both our patrons and staff. As each arena reopens, we will evaluate procedures and programs and modify as necessary before opening more. 

All facilities and activities will meet strict health and safety guidelines as set out by the Provincial Health Officer, Worksafe BC, Fraser Health and viaSport; the provincial body that oversees organized sport groups.

User Groups

Arenas are open to pre-booked user groups with approved Return to Sport safety plans in place. Review the Arena Re-Opening Guidelines for Minor Sport

Reopening Timeline

Note: Dates are subject to change.

  • North Surrey Sport & Ice Complex: Now open to pre-booked user groups only. 

  • South Surrey Arena: Open for pre-booked user groups. 

  • Cloverdale Arena: Open to pre-booked user groups. 

  • Surrey Sport & Leisure Arena: Open to pre-booked user groups now. Select skating programs start in November. 

  • Newton Arena: TBA  


Do not come to the arena unless you have received a confirmation call that a spot has become available. Only those with confirmed bookings will be allowed inside.

Registered Drop-in Skating  

Registered drop-in skating starts November 9 at Surrey Sport & Leisure Complex arena. Weekly registration is now open.

Lace up your skates and enjoy some time on the ice. All ages and abilities are welcome. Skate and helmet rentals are available but must be pre-paid for by selecting the items you wish to rent during the registration. No payments will be taken on site. Helmets mandatory for children 0-12 years. Only pre-registered participants will be allowed entry – no spectators. For children skating alone, one parent/guardian can accompany the child in the facility.  

Registered Drop-in Figure Skating – Adult 

Practice your figure skating! Participants must share music and space. All skill levels welcome. Equipment rentals are not available. Only pre-registered participants will be allowed entry – no spectators.  

Registered Drop-in Stick & Puck

Practice your hockey or ringette skills during this non-instructional time. No scrimmaging permitted. Children (0 to 12 years) must be accompanied on the ice by an adult. Full gear required for children and youth (0 to18 years). Helmet, gloves, and skates required for adults. Goalies must be adults (19+). Equipment rentals are not available. Only pre-registered participants will be allowed entry – no spectators.  

Adult Co-Ed Recreational Hockey League

Stay fit and have fun playing in this non-contact recreational hockey league for men and women ages 19+. Play from November through March. Referee, scorekeepers and jerseys are provided. Goalies get reduced rates. The league is individual registration, but we accept requests if you’d like to play on the same team with other players. For more information on the league, please call the league coordinator at 604-501-5875. 

  • Location: Sport & Leisure Complex – Arenas 

  • Day: Saturdays 

  • Games will be played at one of these times: 11:30am-12:30pm, 1pm-2pm, 2pm-3pm, 3:30pm-4:30pm. 

  • Start/End Date: November 28, 2020 to  March 6, 2021 (15 weeks)

Learn to Skate

Registration is now open for preschool and children’s intermediate and advanced lessons starting November 14 at Surrey Sport & Leisure Complex Arena. 

CSA certified hockey, ski or snowboard helmets are mandatory for anyone participating in skating lessons. Bike helmets are not permitted as they do not offer the protection needed for ice skating. 

For Everyone's Safety 


  • Pre-registration is required for all activities. 

  • Please stay home if sick. 

  • Masks are mandatory and must be worn in all City facilities, except when skating.

  • Come dressed either in skating attire or full gear (except skates/helmets) and bring a full water bottle. 

  • Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the program start time. Doors will be locked at start time. 

  • Answer health screening questions and wash hands upon entry. 

  • Follow directional signage. 

  • Physical distancing must be maintained on and off ice 

  • No showers available. 

  • No spitting. 

  • Expect enhanced cleaning throughout the facility. 

  • Food service is closed. 

Adult Co-Ed Hockey League 

All general guidelines apply plus: 

  • Only a small bag is permitted in dressing room to allow space for physical distancing.  

  • Maximum 10 people per dressing room. 

  • Please exit the dressing room 10 minutes after your ice time. 

  • Your team will be placed into a cohort of 4 teams.  

  • Your cohort will play from November - December. 

  • Teams may be re-tiered to create new cohorts for the January to March games.  

  • Games will be one hour in length. 

User Groups

All general guidelines apply plus: 

  • Maximum 10 people per dressing room. 

  • Users will be escorted out of the building.
