Have questions about the new construction on site? We are very excited to watch the development of the South Surrey Indigenous Carving Centre. Right here in Elgin Heritage Park, the new venue will address the need for Indigenous programming.
Everything You Need to Know
The carving centre is a result of ongoing dialogue and consultation with Semiahmoo, Kwantlen and Katzie First Nations. It will support the City’s reconciliation efforts, provide new artist opportunities and support the transmission of cultural knowledge and practices.
In October 2021, Semiahmoo, Kwantlen and Katzie First Nations organized and led a blessing ceremony on the grounds of the future carving centre. Construction began in June 2022 with the structure gradually taking shape and generating vast public interest since.
