Josephine, a burlesque cabaret dream play

October 6–8 |  Main Stage

Audience Advisory: Josephine is intended for adult audiences as the show contains adult content and nudity.

This one-woman musical tells the story of Josephine Baker, the first African American international superstar, and one of the 20th century's most formidable icons. Born in St. Louis in 1906, Josephine rose to fame after moving to Europe, where she shattered race, gender, and sexuality stereotypes that included: sharing top billing alongside white romantic leading men in movies, multiple interracial marriages, and same-sex relationships, performing drag before the term was even common lexicon, becoming a spy in World War II, civil rights activist, and mother to 12 adopted children.

Josie and Grace, a mostly historical cabaret dream play

October 5–8 | Main Stage

In Josie & Grace, Tymisha Harris reprises the role of Josephine Baker from her award-winning hit solo show. The story begins in 1951, at New York City’s famous Stork Club, where an incident of racial discrimination and Josephine’s public denouncement leads her to be destroyed by the media, exiled from her country of birth, and branded a communist. Here she meets a young and beautiful aspiring actress named Grace Kelly, who walks out of the exclusive Stork Club in solidarity with Josephine. Josie & Grace combines cabaret-style songs, cinematic scenes, and narration, giving audiences a peek behind the curtain of these stars of yesteryear. Watch as these iconic women navigate their meteoric rise to success, and challenge the limits placed on them by society and powerful men, all the while forging an incredible friendship.
