Traditional First Nations and Inuit dance is beautifully blended with leading-edge modern flow arts. Performers Marika Sila and James Jones share their dance as a way to inspire us to pursue passions, reach goals and live a good life.
Marika Sila is an Inuvialuit performer and actor from Yellowknife, NWT who has travelled across Canada, the U.S. and Europe performing and hosting youth empowerment programs. Voted 2017 Canadian Hoop Dancer of the year, she specializes in stunts, fire spinning, sword and staff handling. She is also known for her current role as Sergeant Yuka Mongoyak on the popular TV series, The Twilight Zone.
James Jones is ranked among the top five hoop dancers in the world. Some of James’ most notable performances have been at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, the Juno Awards, Coachella and the Sydney Opera House and has worked with artists, k-os and Snoop Dog. He currently tours with Juno award winning group, A Tribe Called Red. James also holds a degree in social work and mentors youth.
