SPARK Weekend of Performing Arts for Kids

May 24–26, 2024 at the Surrey Arts Centre 

Join us for a weekend brimming with entertaining performances and activities for kids and families.

Friday, we welcome school groups through the Make a Memory program.

Saturday and Sunday is all about family fun!

This year we have spectacular shows on tour from Australia, Ireland, New Orleans, Alberta and Quebec for babies, toddlers and tweens that grown-ups will love too.

Show tickets include drop-in activities like magic, dancing, puppet making, and surprises between performances!

Dino-Light

Lightwire Theater, USA

An eye-popping glow-in-the-dark spectacle that combines the wonders of science, the magic of dinosaurs, and a journey to discover the meaning of love. Lightwire Theater were semi-finalists on America's Got Talent and are loved by audiences all over the world for their electroluminescent artistry and dazzling performances.

Brú Theatre's story book bonanza is led by Lynn, the loveable “libravian" who is ready to share her passion for words and a fresh and funny look at the world of books.

Falling in Africa

Garth Prince, Alberta

For kids and families who love music and dancing! A musical dance show where you're free to get up to dance or maybe you want to sit and listen! Vibrant, colourful, and unforgettable this performance will take audiences on a musical safari. Garth Prince is a JUNO award winning vocalist, drummer, educator and recording artist who connects kids to cultural experiences through music.

Théâtre Motus, Quebec

Where wonder begins. A theatrical experience for babies! Théâtre Motus creates a world of enchantment, where a majestic tree and its animals and gentle insects come to life. Your child will be on a multi-sensory adventure that will leave them wide-eyed and captivated. Don’t miss sharing this magical journey with your favourite little ones!

Your SPARK performance tickets include all the special moments between shows. Activities and performances are scheduled in the Surrey Arts Centre all afternoon on Saturday and Sunday between 12:30pm–4:00pm. Just drop in!

Lobby

  • Puppet Play. Make a puppet with Catherine and Britney then perform it on the mini Little Sparkler puppet stage! 
  • Stories by Sarah Watson. Gather in the cozy book nook for a magical and charming story time.
  • Up Close Magic with Travis Bernhardt. How does he do it? Magician Travis Bernhardt will astound you with his magic!

Art Studios

  • Bollywood Star Dance Workshop. Karima Essa will have you dancing like a Bollywood star! 
  • Jig with Fergus. Give the fancy footwork of traditional Métis jigging a try with Fergus Dalton!

Community Spirit Courtyard 

  • Celebrate hometown emerging and professional performers at the courtyard stage!

Mobile Library 

  • On Saturday, May 25 from 1pm–5pm check out Surrey Libraries' new library on wheels with over 1,000 items to borrow including books for babies to teens and adults. You can return your borrowed items here too.
