Surrey, BC – 95,000 festival-goers joined in BC's largest multicultural celebration, Surrey Fusion Festival, this past weekend. Presented by Coast Capital Savings, Fusion Festival featured live entertainment on four stages, more than 40 cultural pavilions, and fireworks, all free to the public.

More than 40 cultures from around the world were represented in the Parade of Cultures, including seven newcomers this year: Afghanistan, England, Iran, Scotland, Spain, Thailand, and Turkey. Winners of this year’s cultural awards included:

Best Dressed Pavilion: 1st Place – El Salvador, 2nd Place – Tonga, 3rd Place – Canada

Tastiest Bite: Indonesia

Most Musical Pavilion: Scotland

“Fusion Festival is always such a fantastic weekend of music, food and culture in our great city,” said Mayor Linda Hepner. “I would like to take the opportunity to thank Coast Capital Savings for their continued support, and the numerous cultural and community groups who work together to make this wonderful large-scale event such a resounding success year after year.”

Internationally renowned Punjabi singer-songwriter, Jazzy B, known as the “Crowned Prince of Bhangra” wowed the crowd along with fellow-Punjabi singing sensation, Kaur B. Latin performing-artist, Jose Feliciano, deemed by music critics as “the world’s greatest living guitarist” received a standing ovation from the appreciative all-ages audience.

“Now in its 8th year, Fusion Festival has become a signature Surrey event,” said Councillor Bruce Hayne, Chair of the Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism Committee. “As always, the turnout was excellent, as people came from throughout the lower mainland to take part in the festivities.”

“Fusion Festival is a wonderful celebration of Surrey’s vibrant cultural community,” said Councillor Mary Martin, Chair of Surrey's Diversity Advisory Committee. “More than 40 cultural groups took part this year representing the broad and rich diversity of people who call Surrey home.”

In 2013 Surrey Fusion Festival was declared ‘Best Festival in the World’ at the International GALA Awards held in Nashville, following a nomination process involving top events from over 30 countries. For more information visit
