City of Surrey wins award for Financial Reporting

January 18, 2016

For the 18th consecutive year, the City of Surrey’s Finance and Technology Department has won the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting for excellence in governmental accounting and financial reporting.

The City’s annual financial report has been judged by impartial Canadian Review Committee members to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" designed to clearly communicate the municipality’s financial picture and to encourage potential users and user groups to read the report.

"The City of Surrey goes beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to provide full disclosure and I am pleased that we have been recognized for our continued commitment to openness and accountability at City Hall," says Mayor Linda Hepner.

The award is presented by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) which serves more than 18,000 government finance professionals in Canada and the U.S. The award recognizes quality in governmental accounting and financial reporting and represents a significant accomplishment by a municipal government and its management.
