New Pop-up Gallery Opens in Crescent Beach

July 23, 2018

Surrey, BC – On July 19, the Crescent Beach Pop-Up Gallery opened with an inaugural exhibition, Without Boundaries: A Celebration of Clay, featuring work by the Fraser Valley Potters Guild and Semiahmoo Potters Society. Located on the main floor of Beecher Place, at 12160 Beecher Street in Surrey, the gallery is a new city initiative intended to support a range of community-led art activities, including exhibitions, workshops and community art projects.

“Fostering community connections through the arts is a key objective outlined in Surrey’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Strategic Plan,” said Mayor Linda Hepner. “That’s why I am pleased with the establishment of the Crescent Beach Pop-Up Gallery. This unique space creates a place where Surrey residents can explore the range of creative talent that exists in our city.”

The gallery will feature seven exhibitions now through December 1. A call for proposals for the 2019 season will be launched in the fall, with programming expected to run from March through November 2019.

“The arts are a powerful catalyst in strengthening our communities,” added Councillor Judy Villeneuve, chair, Culture Development Advisory Committee. “The Crescent Beach Pop-Up Gallery is not only a place to bring our community together, but it is also a space to promote our local artists and help them engage with new audiences.”
