Surrey, BC – Surrey’s third annual Farm Fresh Sundays—a dining out series celebrating the local agricultural industry—kicks off this Sunday, September 9 at five local eateries across the city. As part of the month-long event, participating restaurants will offer special Sunday menus featuring a minimum of two-thirds locally farmed ingredients.

“In addition to enjoying fresher, better tasting food, there are many benefits to buying locally farmed products,” said Mayor Linda Hepner. “Buying local supports Surrey’s important agri-food industry, which contributes significantly to our economy, community and quality of life.”

Surrey is home to over 475 farms. Over a third (9,290 hectares) of Surrey’s land base is within the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR). An additional 1,000 hectares of farmland are located outside of the ALR. Key agricultural sectors in Surrey include poultry, dairy, berry and vegetable production. Surrey farms support over 3,300 jobs and produce over $167 million in sales annually.

“Surrey farms produce a variety of crops and Farm Fresh Sundays is a great way to learn about and taste the many different foods found right here in our backyard,” said Councillor Mike Starchuk, chair of the Agriculture & Food Security Advisory Committee. “I hope to see our community out at these fine restaurants, which offer delicious specialties as diverse as Surrey’s farms.”

Restaurants participating in this year’s Farm Fresh Sundays include:

  • Bozzini's, 13655 104 Avenue
  • Elements Casino, 17755 60 Avenue
  • Maharaja Restaurant, 8148 128 Street
  • The Taphouse, 15330 102A Avenue
  • Tap Restaurant, 101 15350 34 Avenue
