March 9, 2022 – Work is well underway on the new Nicomekl River Bridge replacement project in South Surrey. The new crossing will increase capacity for this busy corridor from three vehicle lanes to four and add multi-use paths for walking and cycling.

The City of Surrey broke ground on the project earlier this year, and it involves the replacement of the aging two-lane timber trestle bridge and the decommissioned single-lane Bailey Bridge that has recently been completely removed.

The new crossings along King George Boulevard will not only improve traffic flow for the more than 26,000 vehicles that drive through this corridor every day, but will also create greater public safety with the new earthquake and flood resilient bridge structure and increased road capacity to improve emergency response times.

Construction is anticipated to be complete in 2023, and the total project cost is estimated at $22.5 million.
