Get Involved in Youth Leadership – Join a Youth Council!

From joining the Surrey Youth Leadership Council, to planning events with the Youth Events Squad or getting in touch with nature with the Surrey Youth Stewardship Squad, there is a wide variety of youth leadership opportunities in Surrey.

If you're interested in nature, arts, leadership, event planning, community service or having your voice heard, join one of our youth councils or groups today!

Surrey Leadership Youth Council

Do you have thoughts, opinions and ideas about your community? Join the Surrey Leadership Youth Council (SLYC), a group of youth who help youth speak up and have their voices heard with the support of the City of Surrey. The SLYC hosts the Youth Speak Up forum in October every year.

When: Meetings take place on Mondays from 4:30 to 6:30pm
Where: Surrey City Hall (13450 104 Ave)

Chuck Bailey Surrey Leadership Youth Council

If you live, work or go to school in the Whalley/City Centre community, consider joining the Chuck Bailey Surrey Leadership Youth Council (SLYC). This council is for youth who want to work together to discuss topics affecting the Whalley/City Centre community and advocate to have Surrey youth’s voices heard.

When: Meetings take place on Mondays from 3:30 to 6:00pm
Where: Chuck Bailey Recreation Centre (13458 107a Ave)

Guildford Youth Advisory Group

Build your leadership skills by spending your Friday nights with the coolest youth and youth leaders in town! Advocate for Guildford Youth by sharing your ideas and thoughts and brainstorming as a group. Project examples can be sport tournaments, art galleries, movie nights – you name it!

When: Meetings take place every other Friday from 6:30pm to 8:30pm
Where: Guildford Recreation Centre (15105 105 Ave)

Youth Events Squad

Join the Youth Events Squad (YES) to help plan and execute five of the City of Surrey’s biggest youth events, including the Surrey Youth Showcase event series and Band-Aid. If you are between the ages of 14 and 21, you are welcome to join YES or contribute to meetings about specific events.

When: Every other Friday from 4:45 to 6:15pm
Where: City Centre Library

Surrey Youth Stewardship Squad

The Surrey Youth Stewardship Squad (SYSS) combines environmental stewardship and leadership in Surrey's unique urban forest. SYSS enhances our parks through hands-on restoration, education at community events, and other unique projects. Sign up to be a SYSS member, or drop in to one of our upcoming events.

Do you have an idea for a project or an event, but need some help or support to make it happen? Our Youth Engagement Project Teams (YEP) want to work with you! If you are a youth, service provider, school, agency or parent and are interested in connecting with the YEP team in your area, email youth@surrey.ca or contact your local recreation centre.
