Salmon Tracks

When a toxic substance goes down a storm drain it flows to creeks, waterways and ultimately the ocean putting aquatic life at risk. Salmon are a wild and precious local resource that inhabit fresh water and the sea, and like all aquatic life must be protected from environmental harm.

The Storm Drain Marking Challenge is 45 days for the community to paint as many yellow fish by roadside drains as possible. When you sign up you also get entered into a draw to win some great prizes!

The challenge runs from Canada Day, July 1, 2018 to August 15, 2018.

Make your mark to protect Surrey waterway systems—we'll provide the yellow paint, stencils, and maps of nearby storm drains in your area and you paint a fish to help spread awareness that only rain should go down storm drains.

Contact or call 604-591-4321 to request a Salmon Tracks kit and you can pick it up any time during the challenge.

During the Storm Drain Challenge, you can pick up a marking kit from these participating recreation centres:

  • Cloverdale Recreation Centre
  • Fleetwood Community Centre
  • Fraser Heights Recreation Centre
  • Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre
  • Newton Indoor Wave Pool
  • North Surrey Indoor Pool
  • Surrey Sport and Leisure Complex
  • South Surrey Indoor Pool

When you’ve completed the challenge, simply return the kits to one of these centres or the Information Desk at Surrey City Hall with your ballot to win a prize.
