Something for Everyone with City of Surrey's Adapted Programs

Adapted programs, accessible and inclusive city, inclusive programs

Everyone in our Community has the Opportunity to Discover, Explore and Grow

The City of Surrey is committed to developing an accessible and inclusive city. As part of this initiative, we have several adapted programs that allow people with disabilities to get involved and take part in an active and healthy lifestyle.

In partnership with BC Wheelchair Sports, BC Lacrosse, Community Living British Columbia, SportAbility, BC Wheelchair Basketball, Surrey Association for Community Living and Canucks Autism Network you will not want to miss out on our adapted programs this year!

Adapted programs for children

Naturally, children love to play, explore and learn and that was the main focus when creating our adapted programs for children.

Currently we offer one-to-one supported programs in skating and swimming. Children also have the option to join staff supported programs which are a great way to meet new kids. Activities include crafts, painting, cooking and games in the gymnasium, to name a few. The staff support ratio is typically 1 staff: 2/3 participant.

Adapted programs for youth

Youth also have the opportunity to join 1-to-1 programs or staff supported programs.

In creating these programs we had a keen focus on skill development, socializing and, of course, fun!

This season we have many camps, workshops and programs available including the ever so popular Drama Mindcraft: Build Confidence & Character class.

Adapted programs for adults

Adults need to have fun too, and that is why the adapted drop-in programs were developed.

This winter we have two programs dedicated to the enjoyment of 19+.

Your Place is a drop-in social recreation program for adults with disabilities. Activities include crafts, game nights, movie nights, potlucks and more.

Drop in floor hockey is offered in partnership with Community Living British Columbia. Participants must use the sticks that are provided. All abilities are welcome.

Adapted sports

Adapted sports is open to anyone over the age of six.

Develop movement, skills and fundamentals of the game during these great seven session programs. This winter sports include Para Ice Hockey, Boccia,Power Soccer and Wheelchair Basketball.
