Drop-in with Stay and Play

Stay and Play, kids drop-in, toddler programs

During the early years, "meaningful play" opportunities are crucial to helping children develop social skills, emotional confidence, imagination, creativity and physical fitness.

Allowing children to explore safe, nurturing environments that foster inclusiveness, respect and compassion, helps create impactful experiences where  children can learn, grow and get ready for the next stage.

According to the National Association for the Education of Young Children, there are five essential elements to meaningful play:

  1. Children make their own decisions
  2. Children are intrinsically motivated
  3. Children become immersed in the moment
  4. Play is spontaneous, not scripted
  5. Play is enjoyable

Non-structured parent-participation play programs, such as City of Surrey's drop-in Stay and Play, provide opportunities for children (birth to age five) and their caregivers to play together in a safe, welcoming and stimulating environment.

"With our ongoing commitment to providing safe, nurturing environments that foster inclusiveness, respect and compassion, we are creating impactful experiences, where our children can learn, explore, grow and develop." - City of Surrey Children and Youth Services
