Drawing on examples from his long career and worldwide travels, Ron Long illustrates how he has dealt with the challenges of capturing nature ranging from Nudibranchs (or sea slugs) to birds in flight and almost everything in between.

Many of the photographs he will share from his portfolio have not previously been seen. Long will also discuss photographic techniques that any photographer—from amateur to professional—can learn from.

About the Artist

Ron Long had a 36-year career as a professional photographer at Simon Fraser University. For much of that time, he photographed exclusively for the Bio-Sciences Department. Now retired, Ron travels to nature hot spots around the world. Recent trips have taken him to southern Africa, South America, and Australia, as well as many locations in North America. Ron is past president of the Native Plant Society of British Columbia, is currently active in the Vancouver Natural History Society, and is on the board of the Alpine Garden Club.
