Sport Surrey Grants

Through Sport Surrey, the City of Surrey offers residents, community groups, and sporting organizations two types of grants to assist with their sporting events, programs, and initiatives. Choose to apply for the Sport Surrey Grant, the Hockey Try It Grant, or both!

Sport Surrey Grant

The Sport Surrey Grant provides financial support to sporting events that have the potential to bring direct or indirect economic and community benefits to the City of Surrey. Use your Sport Surrey Grant for things like offseting facility rental costs and enhancing existing marketing efforts of the event being hosted in Surrey.

A total of $50,000 is available throughout the year. Grant applications are accepted and reviewed in March and September.

Grant Criteria

To qualify for a Sport Surrey Grant, the event must:

  • be sanctioned by the appropriate, recognized organization (PSO,NSO, International Federation (IF), etc. if applicable;
  • be at the provincial, western Canadian, national, international, orinvitational level;
  • be held in Surrey

Who Can Apply

All Surrey residents, students, community groups, organizations or associations can apply. Informal groups, businesses and organizations also qualify.

Hockey Try It! Small Community Grant

In partnership with Sport Surrey and Right To Play, the Wickenheiser World Female Hockey Festival is proud to deliver the Hockey Try It! Day Community Grant.

Working with the Leadership in Sport Forum, this Community Grant aims to strengthen sport connections in Surrey. It recognizes organizations and individuals who are working to reduce barriers in sport for all ages and abilities. The grant also aims to support local hockey programs in developing opportunities that lead to ongoing sport participation.

The objective of the Hockey Try It! Day is to support grassroots initiatives that ensure all youth can participate in sports and be inspired to lead a healthy, active lifestyle. The Community Grant is designed to support local community events and opportunities designed to create connection with the sport community. Examples of potential projects include:

  • Community Hockey Tournaments,
  • Cul-de-sac Hockey Activations, and
  • Hockey-Based Street Partys.

Grant Criteria

The Hockey Try It! Community Grants have a maximum amount of up to $1,000 per project. The grant supports community activism and celebration through the catalyst of the sport of hockey. Projects should educate and celebrate community members taking part in the event. Projects should enhance sporting opportunities available throughout our City for years to come.

  • The proposed Hockey Try It! Day initiative must take place within the geographical boundaries of the City of Surrey.

  • The proposed Hockey Try It! Day initiative must take place between October 3, 2019 and April 6, 2020 (NHL Calendar Regular Season)

How To Apply

Individuals and groups interested can apply for the Hockey Try It! Day Community Grant by completing the application form. Send submitted completed applications to Jenny Wainman at jwainman@surrey.ca before the deadline of January 31, 2020.

You will receive an email confirming your application has been received. Expect to hear back from us 2-3 weeks after the application deadline.
