Let your child join the fun and get involved in the 13th annual Surrey Kids Conference. There will be many interesting workshops and packages offered to children ages 6 to 12 years. All workshops are free and designed to support healthy lifestyles, social responsibility and personal development.

Paint from the Heart  

Use art to express yourself by experimenting with different techniques, ideas, and materials. Art encourages positive thinking and overall wellbeing. In this workshop, children will create a piece of art to take home.

Plant Care is Self Care

Get ready to get your hands dirty - learn how to take care of plants and how they take care of you. Plant something special of your very own to grow and take home!

Package B - Course Code 4690938 - (9 to 12 Years)

X’PRESS YO-SELF

The workshop will be focused around the fundamentals of breakdance. From basic history of hip-hop and terminology to breaking down the moves. Breakdance or Breaking was originally created by children ages 10-13 in the Bronx. Those children used the art form to escape their reality and express their emotions through movement. Participants should wear active wear, runners, and bring a reusable water bottle.

LIVE 5210 Workshop

Children will create their own fruit and vegetable smoothies! In this workshop we will discuss screen time, physical activity, self-care, sleep, and how all of these affect our well-being. Learning the benefits of what we eat and how physical activity can make us feel, will help encourage healthy habits for life!

Mindfulness for Children

A fun, interactive, creative workshop where children will learn several mindfulness techniques such as breathing exercises, mindful movement and yoga to help reduce stress and improve emotional coping skills, attention and empathy.

Led by: Gurpreet Mangat

Dance Fit

Children will have an opportunity to participate in basic dance/creative movement routines. The class will have some choreography but will provide lots of room for self expression and creativity. Children of various ages and physical abilities will have fun while developing body awareness, flexibility, balance, muscle tone, and cardio strength.

The Race Against Anger

Are you ready to get active and talk about things that matter to you? This workshop will include interactive games that introduce children to their rights and foster a discussion about things that matter to them. We will discuss what wellness means to us and learn strategies from each other for how to deal with frustration.

Kids Conference One-to-One Support for Children with Disabilities 

One-to-one staff support is available for children with disabilities to participate in the Kids Conference. There is no additional fee for this service. Space is limited; in order for a participant to receive support please follow these steps:

Claudia Lemay, RD, is a Registered Dietitian and published author in South Surrey, BC. She specializes in promoting health through changing eating habits for long-term results in. Helping parents learn about nutrition is valuable- parents can help their children understand the connection between food and the growth of their bodies. When children learn the crucial role of food and that they need vitamins and minerals to grow, they are empowered to make healthier choices. Light refreshments provided. Course Code 4690940.
