Your City Archives

The Archives is your place for questions big and small on Surrey’s history.

Surrey Archives is the official City of Surrey agency tasked with acquiring, preserving, and making accessible, archival records that document the history and development of Surrey. City By-law #11331 and Council Resolution (R1728, January 4, 1999) provides this authority. The Archives is funded and operated by the City of Surrey.

The Archives acquires records from Surrey citizens, businesses and community groups and associations. The Archives Collections Policy guides the acquisition of new collections and outlines criteria for acquisition, including Surrey provenance; originality; uniqueness; historical, evidential, and/or legal value; and good physical condition. In addition, The Archives receives transfers of civic records that are identified for permanent preservation in the Corporate File Plan. City records at the Archives include City By-laws, Minutes of Council, Corporate Reports, Mayor’s correspondence, City Manager subject files, tax assessments and more.
