Affordable housing for the middle class is essential for a thriving and inclusive city.

September 8, 2022 – Housing development is booming across the City of Surrey.

The total value of building permits issued in Surrey during the first 6 months of 2022 was $1.17B, which is a 31% increase from the same period last year.

Since the beginning of 2021, the City has issued more than 250 townhouse building permits for the construction of more than 1,300 new homes.

In July alone, Council also moved forward projects that will result in 5,000 new homes, including rental, market housing and projects dedicated to seniors.

The City of Surrey recognizes the need for all types of housing, and is working hard to get these projects from permitting to construction as fast as possible.
