Soothe your hearts and minds with the song stories of Indigenous performing artist, Deanna Gestrin. Wee ones and their caregivers will be encouraged to discover their own vocal sounds and explore the hand drums and rattles while enjoying movement like swaying, dancing or lying down to fully embrace the healing and unifying medicine of Deanna’s Indigenous music.
A relaxed space to enjoy. Come early and settle in before the show starts, then stay and play after the performance.

About Deanna Gestrin
Deanna Gestrin (she/her) is a vocalist, choral conductor, clinician, composer, and music educator. Through her educational, musical, and intercultural work, Deanna aims to promote community wellness by building cross-cultural, intergenerational bridges between individuals, families, and communities.
She serves as a Faculty Associate at Simon Fraser University in the teacher education program, where she leads the Indigenous Perspectives Teacher Education Module. A proud member of the Xaxli’p First Nation in the St’at’imc territory, Deanna has dedicated much of her career to K-12 music education with the Burnaby School District.
Deanna is also registered clinical counsellor who provides support in individual, group, and community settings. She offers workshops on wellness, cultural sensitivity, Indigenous music and education. Through her healing circle program, Sing-Share-Connect, Deanna fosters empathy, resilience, connection, and communication through Medicine Wheel teachings, drumming, singing, dance, and storytelling.
Deanna leads VYC Kindred, an intergenerational Indigenous drumming and singing program for the Vancouver Youth Choir. This free program brings together immigrant and Indigenous youth with Indigenous leaders to connect through hand drumming, singing, and Indigenous culture.
