Gangs target youth as young as 10 years old from various backgrounds. Most parents are shocked to learn their children are at-risk or involved.

Getting informed early and starting the conversations at a young age is key to building resiliency to the appeal of gang life.

These free Empower Surrey workshops will provide parents, caregivers and trusted adults with localized knowledge, tips, tools and information to help parents minimize risk of gang involvement and better understand the challenges our children and youth face today.

Workshop Topics

In this powerful workshop facilitated by the City of Surrey Community Safety team and supported by Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU), and Surrey Anti-Gang Family Empowerment (SAFE) Program clinical counsellors, learn:

  • How to recognize and address warning signs for gang involvement
  • How to recognize youth slang that may indicate potential for risk
  • Difficulties Surrey youth face at school and in the community; told by youth
  • Preventative measures, including:
    • How to build protective factors
    • How to develop and maintain strong connections with your children and youth—one of the most powerful ways to keep kids safe
