Come along for a magical ride through musical time and let the Myrtle Sisters and their harmonies and high jinks get your toes tapping with glee.
This is the perfect show to watch with all the family. You can even tune in with family and friends from different households and have some ‘more the merrier’ virtual fun!
“This talented trio of physical comics…sing in nostalgic three-part harmony. The action is nothing less than inspired inanity, and the briskly-paced production leaves its audience wanting more.” — Orlando Weekly
About the Myrtle Sisters
The Myrtle Sisters have been singing, dancing and clowning together for over 10 years. They are a collaboration of award-winning East Vancouver inter-arts performers presenting high calibre theatre, comedy, dance, and music. They are Kat Single-Dain, Candice Roberts, and Nayana Filekov. A Myrtle Sisters’ tour is their secret way of discovering and recruiting new family band members! Everyone can be a part of the Family!
Nayana Fielkov is a critically acclaimed performing artist dedicated to the work of play. She is based on the unceded territories of the Coast Salish peoples–Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:lō and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations. Beginning with scripted plays and musicals over two decades ago, she evolved through the creation and wearing of masks, into the worlds of clown and devised theatre. Nayana has performed at recognized festivals and venues across the nation with her genre-bending approach to theatre. She is co creator of multi-award winning RAGMOP Theatre, Habitats, and The Myrtle Sisters. She brings together the mediums of clown, dance, mask, and physical comedy. Along with her touring duo shows, she creates ensemble work, roving acts, hosting characters, variety acts, and is an active and founding member of Vancouver's cherished Dusty Flowerpot Cabaret. She teaches contact dance and clown internationally, and has facilitated youth in theatre creation for many events including The International Children's Festival. Nayana is also a maker of puppets, clothing, costumes, and is a proud mother of a ten -year-old boy.
“Nayana Fielkov is…immensely charming.” - Colin Thomas, reviewer for the Georgia Straight Vancouver.
Candice Roberts is a fifth generation settler and artist based as an uninvited guest on the ancestral and unceded territories of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Her original theatrical works and film shorts interweave physical theatre, music, mask, movement, and clowning to investigate the humour and heartbreak of our social and human conditions. Cultivating anti-oppressive and intersectional understandings are important to Candice in her artistic research of creativity, decolonization and the connections between self-expression, mental health, and community.
“A fearless performer” — CBC
Candice has toured all over North American, including New York and New Orleans with her award winning solo shows Larry, and Ideas Bobert. She is also the artistic director of Candy Bones Theatre which devises and tours innovative, immersive, and original theatre for young audiences.
Kat Single Dains began her life by playing, acting, dancing, and singing as a child, and plans to do the same for the rest of her life. Kat Single-Dain is an award-winning filmmaker, critically acclaimed performer, writer, director, an established choreographer of eight full-length, original theatre productions, and event producer with a decade under her belt. She creates and performs with festival darlings The Myrtle Family Band and Gloria's Happy Hour and is the artistic director of The Parade of Lost Souls and The Dusty Flowerpot Cabaret, named one of “Vancouver’s best kept secrets” by the CBC. She is the creator/director/choreographer of the critically acclaimed and Jessie Award-nominated Hard Times Hit Parade and Scarlet Queen of Mercy—two immersive theatrical extravaganzas currently in post-production as feature films—and writer/director of The Beaumont Studio’s breakout Hallowe’en hit, Tours for the Recently Deceased.
"When the young marathoners launch into director Kat Single-Dain’s energetic, swing-inspired choreography, you can almost feel the sap starting to run in the trees.” — Georgia Straight
