The Glades Woodland Garden: Public Garden Stroll

10:00am–4:00pm at The Glades Woodland Garden

The Glades Woodland Garden is a feature garden in South Surrey with many rare plants, including over 3500 mature rhododendrons, azaleas, and companion plants. Some of the rhododendrons are more than 6 metres (20 feet) tall, and are ablaze in colour in the spring. The garden also contains a superb collection of fine trees, many of which are now designated as heritage.

Darts Hill Garden Park: Public Garden Stroll

Darts Hill Garden Park is a feature garden in South Surrey with many species of plants from all over the world. Francisca and Edwin Darts gifted the garden to the residents of Surrey in 1994. They wanted to ensure everyone could enjoy their garden and learn more about plants in Surrey.

Experience the work of artist Charles Campbell in An Ocean to Livity and the exhibition Masi Medicine: Joyful Nourishment that consider community and connection through dynamic art and sculpture.

Online Art Takeout: Drawing in the Field 

10:00am–11:00am | Online

From sketching on location at Denman Island to setting up her pencils and papers in downtown Steveston and Iona Beach, artist-educator Alexandra Thomson shows different sketching techniques and ways to depict the ever-evolving landscape around us.  

Capture on paper the change of seasons with six hour-long classes including techniques such as contour line drawing, sighting and perspective, shading, and more! Learn how to render clouds, flowers, fenceposts, moving water, fields and meadows, and the bustling cityscape. "Drawing in the Field" is a thoughtful way to begin your sketching journey or revisit the techniques you may already know.

Walking Soccer with Coastal FC 

11:00am–12:00pm at BMO Coastal Soccer Indoor Facility – Pads 1 & 2

Are you looking to get out, be active and make new friends?! Come join us on the pitch for a low-impact version of the ‘beautiful game’ with Coastal F. 

Walking soccer is ideal for those individuals for those who are unable to play the game in its traditional format and for those who are looking to try something new and fun. This program is offered to men and women over the age of 50. 

The game is a non-competitive, self-refereed version of soccer, where participants walk instead of run and play with smaller-sized nets. Contact and shots above the knee are not allowed. 

Please dress appropriately in order to participate in physical activity.

Online Armchair Traveler Series

Discover new countries from the comfort of your home!

This month, join Recreation Surrey and Surrey Libraries to explore the culture and highlights of Prague. See pictures and share experiences during this online activity. 

For this online program, we'll be using Microsoft Teams. What you'll need: a computer with a microphone (or headphones) and webcam; or your smartphone, or iPad/tablet.

Planting for Pollinators 

1:00pm–2:00pm at Historic Stewart Farm (in the pole barn)

If you plant it, they will come!  Learn more about local pollinators such as birds, bees and butterflies, and how you can support them. Plant and take home a pollinator-friendly planter including native plants that will attract not only pollinators, but other beneficial insects and birds to your outdoor space.  Then go for a short, guided walk through the farm’s bee-garden, heirloom gardens and orchard and observe pollinators hard at work.  

The species you’ll plant were chosen to attract pollinators, and also because of their benefits to the land and important cultural uses. All workshop participants will also receive a Skelkelosen seed pack developed in collaboration with the Coast Salish Plant Nursery.

WALKit Activity Program: South Surrey Nature Walk (55+)

Join us on this local nature walk of the historic Semiahmoo Trail.

Enjoy moderate intensity exercise consisting of low-impact cardio followed by muscle conditioning and relaxing stretch techniques led by one of our certified fitness instructors. The session will be held online and participants will take part using their own electronic device.

Having a will is important for you and the people you leave behind. This workshop makes wills easy. Together we’ll go over a will’s major pieces, the benefits of having one, and things and options to consider when making yours.

Bring friends (or meet new ones) and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee while you play card or board games, do a puzzle or learn about our local history. A great way to relax before or after a walk through the nature trails of Elgin Heritage Park.

Meet at Surrey Art Gallery for a drawing session in Bear Creek Park led by artist Yan Song (materials will be provided). Please bring a folding chair, hat, and water bottle. In the event of rain, a drawing session will be led in the Gallery’s art studio.

Take-Home Crafts at Surrey Museum

Stop by the Museum of Surrey and pick-up the following craft kits that you can do at home:

Rock painting

Inspired by the ‘Kindness Rocks Project”, we supply paints and the painting surface (a beautiful flat rock) and you supply the design. Decorate your rock and place them in locations for others to find as a “random act of kindness”. Make someone happy with a pretty rock and inspirational message or lovely picture to brighten your day.

Folding Paper Flowers

Inspired by origami and the art of paper folding, we will supply paper and instructions to create your own bouquet that will never wilt. Fold, glue and plump your flowers to your hearts content.
